About 'restaurant monticello'|Monticello Restaurant Beer Dream Team (Part Three)
LongHorn Steakhouse claims to have "taken the best of the West and created a place where you can relax and unwind in a comfortable, inviting atmosphere." Since one recently opened in nearby Williamsburg we decided to give it a try. Located at 3970-14 Monticello Avenue, adjacent to one of the city's most popular shopping center's, the restaurant is well positioned just off highway 199 and near Interstate 64. The large, open steakhouse has lovely high wooden ceilings complete with wood beams, beautiful faux plaster walls with an stone accent wall. It definitely gives visitors the feeling of the wide open spaces of the plains. There is nothing closed in or cramped about this place. It exudes comfort from its spacious booths to its widely spaced tables with cozy chairs. The décor includes wonderful chandeliers with a definite Native American feel including animal antlers and upside down teepees. The walls are adorned with huge landscape paintings, cowboy prints, and traditional cowboy gear like hats, chaps, boots, spurs, and lassos. There are saddles and other traditional horse gear as well as a few animal heads thrown in for good measure. Our waiter was quite attentive and patient as we poured over the menu, which offered too many tempting things to make a quick or easy choice. We opted to begin with the Texas Tonion, which were crispy fried individual onion petals that came with a delicious horseradish-based sauce. We decided to split their large ribeye steak since LongHorn specializes in that arena. It came with a fresh garden salad and baked potato. For beverages we settled on ice tea. We also requested their complimentary bread. I personally didn't care for the bread, which was whole grain, but my husband loved it. That was highly unusual for us because it is generally the other way around. I typically love whole grain items and my husband hates them. I find most whole grain breads tastier than the more typical bland white bread. This one, however, had very little taste to it and I felt it was a little on the heavy side. That, however, is just a matter of taste and, since it is complimentary, should not affect anyone's overall view of the eatery. The onion petals were hot, crisp, and delicious particularly when dipped in the delicate spiced sauce. The salad was cold and crisp but the Ranch dressing was a little tart. There was a distinctive lemon taste that I'm unaccustomed to with that type of dressing. However, that is again a matter of taste and may well appeal to most people. The tea was perfect; not too weak nor too strong and our waiter kept our glasses full throughout the meal. The steak was unbelievably delicious, just as promised. LongHorn claims a commitment to delicious, quality steaks and they deliver. The texture definitely spelled "fresh" and not frozen (as advertised) and it was grilled to absolute perfection, medium as ordered. It was thick, tender, and absolutely scrumptious from the first bite to the last. The restaurant uses only the finest quality beef, chicken, pork and seafood and grills each item to order. It's a recipe for freshness that their guests have come to depend upon. Everyone's taste, whether it be for tender and juicy steaks, mouthwatering chicken, or BBQ ribs that fall off the bone should be easily filled. What's better than that? The restaurant has a full service bar as well and carries Coca-Cola products. We were pleased with our first visit to LongHorn's Steakhouse and we will likely return in the future. I recommend this restaurant, giving it three and one-half out of five stars. |
